Yumeko Nozaki

Yumeko Nozaki (野崎 夢子 Nozaki Yumeko) is a middle school student and the younger sister of Umetarou Nozaki and Mayu Nozaki.

In high school, she is classmates with Ritsuo Miyoshi and Haruka Ichijou.

Appearance[]

Yumeko has reddish brown hair, tied in two chin-length pigtails on either side of her face and held with green hair ties. Her forehead is partially obscured by a choppy fringe, similarly to Mayu, and her eyes are brown.

She is often depicted wearing her school uniform, a knee-length green dress with no sleeves, over a white shirt. The typical black ribbon for middle school second-years is fitted under her collar.

Three years into the future, she wears the female uniform for Roman Academy, which consists of the school blazer over a white blouse, the second-year red ribbon underneath her collar, and a navy blue skirt. She wears small white ribbons on each side of her head.

Personality[]

Yumeko is a curious and enigmatic girl. Unlike her older brothers, she is bad at drawing. After seeing one of Mayu's drawings, she becomes discouraged about her art abilities, displaying a self-conscious side. However, Yumeko is incredibly imaginative, being capable of thinking up interesting stories and plotlines for Let's Fall in Love on a whim, which her brother begrudgingly notes down and uses in the story. She has no qualms about talking to or asking questions of her family members. Yumeko does not take gender into consideration when judging a person's attractiveness, as seen when she chooses Yuu Kashima over Mikoto Mikoshiba, even after being informed that Kashima is a girl. Towards her friends at school, Yumeko is bubbly and pleasant.

In Monthly Girls' Nozaki-san, Yumeko is class president of 2-B. She tends to copy many behaviors she has seen in shoujo manga in order to trigger "encounters brimming with romance", but is incredibly dense when these moments actually do happen, as seen in Chapter 1. Despite her irrationality, she is very sociable and kind, as shown when she gave Ritsuo Miyoshi a tour around the school and looked after him during his first day. She is knowledgeable about many aspects of the school, even to the point of knowing their gym teacher's separation with his wife, and has uncanny familiarity with all of the eating spots in the vicinity. She once attempted to be a "cool beauty" to attract Miyoshi's attention, but could not stay quiet for long enough.

Relationships[]

Mr. Nozaki[]

Besides her brothers, Yumeko also confides in her father for advice, as she went to him and questioned whether she would eventually improve at art after she discovered Mayu's illustration.

Umetarou Nozaki[]

Yumeko views Umetarou as a reliable older brother, affectionately calling him onii-chan, and does not hesitate to ask him for advice. This is shown when she approaches Umetarou during a bout of insecurity, requesting "intensive drawing training". Despite the fact that she recognizes his skill in art, Yumeko does not seem to believe that Umetarou is the author of Let's Fall in Love.

Mayu Nozaki[]

Yumeko does not use a family honorific when referring to Mayu, instead calling him "Mayu-kun". She seems to take on the responsibility of reminding him to do certain things, such as eating, when he is being lazy. Yumeko also acknowledges Mayu's art abilities, as seen when she subtly compliments one of his judo illustrations.

Ritsuo Miyoshi[]

Yumeko is fond of Miyoshi and wants to monopolize his time, mainly due to his status as the transfer student in her class. As class president, she uses her position as an excuse to approach and excessively help Miyoshi, though he tends to prefer the company of Ichijou. He can be blunt towards Yumeko, but she takes it well and continues with her advancements. Though Miyoshi finds Yumeko exasperating at times, he still appreciates her personality, in contrast to students from other classes finding her loud personality a "waste" of her appearance.

Haruka Ichijou[]

Ichijou and Yumeko have a cold yet close friendship. Ichijou is amicable towards Yumeko, but often gives backhanded comments. Yumeko finds his popularity impressive, and participates in the betting pool of what kind of socks people wear when they confess to him. She tends to get annoyed whenever Miyoshi chooses to spend time with Ichijou over her. Once in middle school, Ichijou caught Yumeko pretending to be a magical girl, but when he asked why she didn't have a transformation spell ready, Yumeko felt embarrassed that she couldn't give an explanation. By the end of the special, Ichijou states he is fond of Yumeko but doubts that they will interact after graduation. Further in the special, it is revealed that Izumi Tsubaki intended Mayu to be Ichijou's upperclassman in the judo club, which Yumeko would use to her advantage against him.

Etymology[]

Yumeko (夢子): Yume (夢) means "dream, vision" and Ko (子) means "child".

Nozaki (野崎): No (野) means "field, wilderness" and Saki/Zaki (崎) means "cape, peninsula".
