Flashback: Chiyo Sakura enthusiastically shares all of her knowledge with her friends about the boy she idolizes Umetarou Nozaki. She even has collected all kinds of things he left lying around. Her classmates complain that she only talks about him, and it is getting really annoying. Furthermore, they have heard her talk about him so much that they are also experts on him (excluding Yuzuki Seo). Even Hasegawa-kun, the boy who sits next to Sakura, knows all of Nozaki’s facts. One of the girls then brings up that Sakura and Nozaki met on the school’s entrance ceremony.
One year ago: Sakura took the wrong train by accident and was late to school. When she arrives at the gates, she discovers a boy sleeping on top of the gate. Startled, she wonders what he could be doing when he suddenly jerks awake. A series of comical situations are played out as he tries to help her get over the gate. Eventually, he lifts her up (completely surprising the latter), and he carries her prince-like over the gate. During this time, he is continuously thinking about character designs and plot situations for his new manga.
After Sakura thanks him, he reveals that he was actually not planning to come to school today. However, he really wanted the flower they receive on orientation. Sakura realizes that the flowers have already been given out. Therefore, she generously removes one of her ribbons, attaches a piece of paper to it with a pin, and hands it to Nozaki. He asks if it is all right—she tells him not to worry about it and walks away. Although Nozaki is still envisioning plots for his story, he suddenly is overcome with sleep. Later when he is drawing his heroine, he draws a light-haired girl with one ribbon in her hair.
Sakura continuously watches Nozaki until her friend finally begs her to confess. She immediately runs off to do so. However, the next day Sakura informs her that after she did, she got an autograph from him.
